Things I do when I'm on hold

Today I was on hold for one hour.  I gave up.  But before I gave up, I got some other things done.  I usually do, but I usually don't wait on hold that long.  I'm usually trying to do something that I can drop when they finally do come to the phone, and something that's rather quiet so that I can hear them when they answer.

I began to wonder what other people do when they're on hold.  Oh, how I wish I could see that.  I know that I can't do that.  But if you tell me what you do, at least I can imagine.   Here is what I did today while I was on hold:

  • Scribbled
  • Answered email
  • Added items to my to do list
  • Filed my nails
  • Washed dishes
  • Prepared a snack
  • Ate the snack
  • Paced
What do you do when you're on hold?

Which TV grown up influenced the adult you?

To my girlfriends - have you considered that the television programs we grew up on influenced what we have grown up to become?  I'm thinking particularly of the grown ups we watched on tv.  I can think of three that I learned from, and that I either emulate or avoid becoming:

Laura on the Dick Van Dyke show
Oh, I loved to see what she would wear!  Yes, she liked to wear tights. She also wore scarves and dresses.  From Laura I learned that one can have fun, make mistakes, voice strong opinions, and still be a lady.

June, the mom on Leave It to Beaver
June always wore dresses, kept a perfect house, and made perfect meals, and always had the right thing to say to her boys and her husband.  She always knew just how to react to Eddie, her son's friend.  And yes, I know it was just a tv show.

Lucille Ball, I Love Lucy
Lucy had fun.  Lucy got in trouble.  Repeat.  I learned from Lucy to be persistent, but I also learned that I should listen to the warnings from my loved ones, as sometimes they had good advice that might keep me out of trouble.

How about you?  What television characters did you grow up to be like?  I look forward to seeing the responses!
