Jobs

This year has been a roller coaster ride in the jobs arena for me so far.

Began the year struggling looking for work, resigning myself to look at out of town opportunities.

After an interview for a two week project in Washington DC, received an a five month contract offer with option to convert to permanent.

Accepted the offer, moved to DC, found out the project was three weeks long.

Scramble to get more work in new location. Manage to extend original contract a few additional weeks and awarded four week project with another group through a referral.

Recruiters calling me, interviewing. Maybe I'll consider Ohio, Pennsylvania, or Tennessee....

Dog walk

I saw a man walking seven dogs. It was an amazing sight. All the dogs were well behaved, walking orderly, at the same relaxed pace.

So I had to take a picture of them.

Same job, new company

So since the first consulting company has given me such trouble, I requested to be released from the contract I had with them.

I didn't know I could request such a thing. And I didn't know how they would react. But they said okay!

So today I start reporting as W2 to a wonderful consulting company, though I'm still working at the world bank on the same projects. A big improvement!!!

Dance truck

Have you seen a truck like this before?

I have too.

I danced with the guy who drives this at the hand dance place.

You never know who you'll meet when you're out dancing.

Had fun dancing with him, too.

The new in town twitch

The twitch is nearly disappeared. I recognized it after I was in DC about three weeks.

I see people that look familiar. I don't know them, of course, because I just moved here. But almost daily I see someone who looks a lot like somebody I knew in Dallas.

For the first few weeks here, I would start to say hi, or wave, or reach for a handshake or hug. But then I would stop myself before actually saying or doing something. And I realized when this happened, even though it was only a split second, it was like a twitch. A hello-oh I don't know you-twitch. Ha. :)

It doesn't happen as often now.

Tall bridges

These are pictures of bridges on the road near the house I'm staying in.  The road goes near the Zoo and around a park.  Further down the road, it also runs alongside the Potomac.
But these bridges are so tall.
Anyone know why they would make them this large?

Frogger

As I walk across the street I get cut off by bicycles, cars, people walking.

Everyone is in a hurry.

It's like a life size game of Frogger.

I cross and try to avoid all.

Three times on Tuesday I almost was hit by car.

Crazy.

Nursery rhymes

This is a school that I walk by every day to go to the bus.

I think it's the original balcony for the story of Rapunzel! I wonder if anyone else knows this? :)

Out-takes

I had a dream last night that had out takes. How odd is that? It was so strange that it woke me up.

I was dreaming that I was hanging out with a small group of friends, we were standing around and talking, I think at a park. There were dogs and cats and birds in the background.

Then, out of no where, a man walked out in front of this entire scene I was "watching". He was all black, just a silhouette. As he got right in front and venter of it all, he tripped and fell! Then I heard the word "cut!" and I woke up.

No I haven't been watching tv or movies lately, not for weeks...

In common

We all got up this morning got dressed. We all fixed our hair, picked what shoes and socks to wear, which purse to carry.

At least we have that in common.

I think.

People watching - laughter

Actually this should be labelled "people listening" rather than "people watching".

I heard an unusual laugh at the restaurant Wednesday.

The woman at the next table from me had a laugh that was loud and screechy.  I had to look to see if it was authentic or if she was doing it for another reason. It was a real laugh.  She was enjoying a conversation with a young man, and he was smiling, obviously enjoying her laughter.

Then someone pulled out a chair across the restaurant. The chair made a very loud scraping sound on the floor.

And it sounded exactly like the woman's laughter.
